What installs well trenchlessly — and what doesn't
Pressure pipe is HDD's natural product: water mains and force mains follow the bore path's gentle curves without complaint. Gravity sewer is the honest exception — it lives or dies on precise continuous grade, which standard HDD holds only with specialized guidance; short, well-instrumented gravity runs are done, but much gravity work still belongs to open cut or other trenchless methods. A contractor who tells you that up front is quoting the job, not the fantasy.
Crossings, casings, and rehabilitation
Creek, highway, and railroad crossings are the classic wet-utility bores: a casing or fused carrier pulled under the obstacle with the permits, depth, and settlement control the authority requires. Where an existing main has failed under pavement, trenchless replacement — a new drilled main beside it, services transferred — routinely beats digging up the street. Municipal-grade process
Public water work is inspected work: locates and potholing, trench-safety and traffic control plans, bacteriological testing, pressure tests witnessed and documented. We build under that regime as the normal course of business, alongside the broader underground utility scopes we carry — and on federally funded projects the Davis-Bacon machinery is already running.
